4 Improvement Tips for Your Office Building

Businesses are always seeking to improve; and while focus should always be on improving the quality of product and services provided to customers, it should also start back at base, too. Improving your office can have a hugely positive effect on your workforce, which in turn will positively impact your company.

Here are 4 tips for improving your office space.

  1. Provide Adequate Facilities

Employees can work better when they have access to all they need. Think about improving communal spaces so that workers can use them in a better way. It’s good to provide a communal lunch space to encourage employees to move around and avoid eating their lunch at their desks, which can therefore promote better health.

Also make sure various facilities are available, such as a tea and coffee maker, a microwave and cutlery, and access to fresh water.

Making sure bathroom facilities are adequately stocked is also a must.

You can also think about outside facilities, such as a secure bike rack or car park space for those who are commuting.

  1. Create an Outside Space

Having an outside space for employees can be a huge benefit for productivity. Especially if you have a large office building, having the chance to step outside can help employees find a better source of natural light, spend time in the sunshine during the summer or even spend their lunchbreak in the fresh air.

If you have a large tower block, you could create a balcony garden, or a seating area on the roof if circumstances allow. Or, you could make a small patio area outside using york stone flags and add some plants and greenery to also help the environment.

  1. Ensure a Good Source of Natural Light

Natural light can be everything to an efficient workspace. Not only does it have health benefits for those working within the space in terms of more positive thinking and a more productive attitude, but it can also save you money on electricity bills if you can fill your space with primarily natural light and avoid the artificial costs.

Furthermore, certain artificial and fluorescent lights can cause eye strain for those working under them, especially if working at a computer. Having natural light to turn to – and most specifically, having large windows with a view – will mean that employees can reduce the risk of strain and rest their eyes from the screen.

  1. Let Employees Be Creative

It’s the workforce who spend each and every day in their allocated office space – so why not let them put their own spin on it? Allowing workers to be creative and free to decorate their space how they wish can boost positivity and creativity. Even if it’s as simple as allowing employees to bring in their own personal items for their desks, such as a plant or photograph.

You can also ask their input for design features in the room. This is better than decorating the office in a very bland and boring way which may mean nobody feels particularly inspired within the room or building.
