Five-Star Experience for Central Oregon Dogs

For people with dogs, one of the most difficult decisions they face is leaving their best friend at a boarding kennel while they travel, or leaving them at home all day while they work. Now, Central Oregonians have a new alternative in Dig Dog Hotel, which will pamper local dogs with a luxury five-star overnight hotel, daily indoor and outdoor “doggie daycare,” a health club with treadmills and a dog-specific “spaw.”

Located at 521 SE Ninth St., near the intersection of SE Wilson Ave. and SE Ninth St., Dig Dog Hotel’s grand opening is set for Monday, May 6. Prior to opening, Dig Dog Hotel will host a red carpet premiere event on from 5:30-9pm on Friday, May 3 and an open house at its state-of-the-art, 12,000-square-foot, custom-built building from 9am-5pm on Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 5. Dogs and their owners are welcome at all grand opening and open house events.

The Red Carpet Premiere event is open to the general public and their dogs, giving them a chance to walk the red carpet, have their picture taken, tour the facility and enjoy appetizers, cocktails and a glamorous night with their favorite companions while benefiting the Humane Society of Central Oregon. Cocktail attire is encouraged, and RSVPs are requested via email to info@digdoghotel.com.

The informal Open House allows dogs and their owners to tour the facility at their convenience over the weekend. The open house is a benefit for Street Dog Hero, which rescues and finds adoption matches for street dogs from around the world. Open house attendees will receive and receive a gift certificate that can be redeemed for a 25 percent off their first Dig Dog Hotel stay.

“Leaving our dogs at a boarding kennel while we travel, or cooped up in the house while we are at work, can be a heartbreaking and guilt-ridden experience for both the dog and the owner,” said Robin Tomb, owner of Dig Dog Hotel. “We built this facility so that when dog parents first walk in, they feel as if they are walking into a high-end, luxury hotel that they themselves would want to stay in. And once they say goodbye, they can rest assured that their dogs are being well cared for in a safe, comfortable fun and stress-free hotel and daycare.”

Dig Dog Hotel is far from your ordinary boarding kennel. Instead, it’s a full-service overnight luxury hotel that feels much closer to a five-star hotel for humans. The facility provides round-the-clock care and is open for pick-up and drop-off 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to accommodate early departures and late arrivals. It features a variety of accommodations, too, including standard, executive and penthouse suites. Each private room features tempered glass doors, regular potty breaks, elevated beds, and of course, daily playtime. Webcams are available for rent daily, allowing owners to monitor their pets’ activities. DOGTV is also available in many rooms to provide added entertainment to hotel guests.

The most luxurious are the penthouse suites, which include a 100-square-foot private room, queen-sized bed with luxury bedding, a webcam for owners to check in on their pet 24-7, and a television with DOGTV. A standard suite includes a 30-square-foot private room and executive suites offer a 45-square-foot private room. Webcam service is available in the standard and executives suites for an additional fee. Rates start at $50/night for hotel stays and $35 for a full day of daycare.

In addition to the suites, rooms and standard services, Dig Dog also offers:

  • Access to a mini-bar, which includes organic, raw goat milk, bone broth, tripe, select varieties of raw diets, doggy beer and doggy ice cream.
  • Convenient online reservations and booking.
  • Doggie daycare with live webcams, playground equipment, nap and lunch service on request, indoor and outdoor play, splash pools during warmer months, multiple playgroups based on size and temperament and supervised play, fun and games.
  • Spaw treatments, including bubble baths, “pawdicures,” tooth brushing and deshedding treatment.
  • Health club services, including use of the treadmills.

“Our goal is for every stay at Dig Dog Hotel to be stress-free for both the dog and the owner, and a fun way to ease the anxiety that naturally comes with being apart from your best friend,” Tomb said.

An avowed dog lover, Tomb is a pioneer in the high-end dog boarding and daycare sector. An Oregon native who grew up on a cattle ranch in the Willamette Valley, Tomb opened Pooch Hotel in Chicago’s Lincoln Park in 2004. She expanded to another location in Chicago and a third hotel in Sunnyvale, California. In 2011, she sold her Pooch Hotel business and relocated her family to Bend.

Eight years later, she is bringing her concept of a luxury hotel and daycare for dogs to Central Oregon.

“When I would travel for business in the tech sector, it would break my heart every time I had to drop off my Jack Russell, Daisy, at a conventional kennel,” Tomb said. “So I wanted to create a place where dog lovers could truly feel great about leaving their beloved pets, and that the animals themselves would be excited and feel loved. The response from dog parents has been overwhelming and profound over the years, and I can’t wait to bring that same experience to Central Oregon.”
