Bend Golf & Country Club Updates Golf Course

Bend Golf & Country Club (BG&CC) is in the second week of updating the golf course using the plan designed by course architect Dan Hixson. At his recommendation, the Club will remove upwards of 300 ponderosa pine trees to make the course far more playable according to Jay Bennett, president of BG&CC.

“For the first time in years we can see the mountains from the deck of the clubhouse,” remarked Bennett. “We anticipate this phase of a multi-year project will be completed in about two weeks. We will then commence additional work this spring to change some hole layouts and new mowing patterns to increase the enjoyment of the course.”

This major overhaul of one of Bend’s icons comes just in time for the celebration of its 90th Anniversary in Central Oregon.

“Many of our members are excited about the new strategies that will present themselves when playing each hole; this will be an ongoing process, but the improvements and different challenges will be dramatic,” said Erik Nielsen, Head PGA Professional at BG&CC.

“The course looks magnificent – we can see vistas that we haven’t seen in years. We were golfing the “old course” right up until the logging started, and we expect to have our members back out within a couple of weeks to enjoy the “new course” and all the great new shots that have been created. Come join us and you can call Bend home too,” added Bennett.

Bend Golf & Country Club was established in 1925 with a Chandler Egan designed nine-hole golf course. It is now the only full-service, member-owned 18 hole golf course in one of the world’s great golf regions. The golf course features over 7,000 yards of spectacular signature holes and fairways lined with majestic Ponderosa pines. Bend Golf & Country Club is a private golf club with a full service facility with tennis, pool, fitness center and private restaurant.

The bunked logs will be heading for a Klamath Falls saw mill soon.
