The Bend WebCAM Conference, the two-day event that inspires marketing and web professionals and small business owners every October, is reaching out to a brand new audience this year: students. This year’s conference, hosted by Pixelsilk and the Advertising Federation of Central Oregon (AdFed), will be held on October 13-14 at the Tower Theatre and the Oxford Hotel in downtown Bend.

It will present the latest techniques and practices in SEO, Social Media, Digital Media, Brand Strategy & Storytelling and much more. Full-time college students can attend the entire conference at a discounted registration or they can take part in a special student-focused Career Launch Workshop at no charge.

The student workshop, 10 Keys to a Successful Career Launch, will be presented by Bart Cleveland, Founder of Job Propulsion Lab, an Austin-based service that helps start careers in marketing and advertising. It will be held Tuesday, October 14, from 3:00-6:00 pm on the Central Oregon Community College (COCC)/Oregon State University (OSU) Cascades campus. Earlier that morning Cleveland will present a three-hour workshop, “Productivity, Collaboration and Innovation,” which will appeal to the entire Bend WebCAM audience.

“We are really pleased to have Bart Cleveland presenting specifically to students this year as well as the rest of the WebCAM audience,” said Cam Davis, co-organizer of Bend WebCAM. “For the past five years, Bend WebCAM has focused on educating marketing professionals, IT experts, creatives, entrepreneurs and small business owners with the latest insight and best practices from leading edge experts.”

“Today’s students have literally grown up on the internet and social media. With the right educational opportunities, they have the potential to be important and immediate contributors to the business world from Wall Street in Bend to Madison Avenue in New York. So this year, we’ve made a concentrated effort to reach college students from Bend and beyond.

Rosie Laurie, a senior majoring in America Studies and President of the Student Marketing Group (SMG) at OSU Cascades, is excited to share in the Bend WebCAM experience.

“The Student Marketing Group of OSU-Cascades strives to host activities for students that enrich and expand upon the classroom experience, exposing them to the real world while fostering career development in a fun and exciting environment,” said Laurie. “The Bend WebCAM Conference perfectly fits this objective and the Career Launch Workshop will be valuable for students of all programs. Everyone needs to know how to present themselves and nail that first job out of college.”

Attracting some of the nation’s most dynamic speakers and innovative thinkers, Bend WebCAM invites attendees to explore mind-blowing topics in all areas of web, creative, and marketing. It introduces best practices in internet-based communication technology and identifies the keys that trigger creativity in marketing, helping attendees stay ahead of the pack for the next year.

Headlining the event this year are keynote speakers Michael King, Executive Director of Owned Media at Acronym in New York City; Carmen Simon, Executive Coach and Co-Founder of Rexi Media, San Francisco, Bruce Kasanoff, Founder at Now Possible in New York; Farrah Bostic, Founder of The Difference Engine in New York; and Marty Weintraub, Founder of aimClear in Minnesota. Students attending the whole conference will benefit from these as well as numerous other workshops and breakout sessions.

Generous donations from Brooks Resources Corporation, OSU Cascades Student Marketing Group and COCC have contributed most of the funds needed to make the Career Launch Workshop completely free to students. Additional contributions are more than welcome and can be made when individuals register for the Conference online.

Students who wish to attend the full conference can use discount code STUDY to receive $215 off the regular ticket price at www.bendwebcam.com/register/ before September 11. Based on “help a student” donations from the registration form, Bend WebCAM will give away free passes to a limited number of students. Full-time students who would like to be considered may email info@bendwebcam.com and state why they deserve a free ticket. Others may use the discount code BUZZ for a limited time to save $179. AdFed Members get the best possible price for a ticket – just $250 until September 11 when ticket prices go up.
