Land agencies and local nonprofits are teaming up to make Central Oregon the number one location in the country to honor the 50th anniversary of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act.  Discover Your Forest, the Deschutes and Ochoco National Forests, Upper Deschutes Watershed Council, Deschutes River Conservancy, Oregon Natural Desert Association, Prineville BLM and Coalition for the Deschutes will be offering dozens of programs, events and contests celebrating this milestone.

Also, local breweries including Worthy, 10 Barrel, Bridge 99, Crux, and Wild Ride will join the celebration by releasing brews named in honor of the Wild and Scenic 50th.

The state of Oregon has more than 1,900 miles of Wild and Scenic rivers, with 8 designated rivers occurring in the Central Oregon region. The Wild and Scenic Rivers Act preserves certain rivers, and their immediate environments, with outstanding natural, cultural, and recreational values in a free-flowing condition for the enjoyment of present and future generations.

The celebration will be occurring all year long, with special events, festivals, beers and more taking place throughout Central Oregon. Visit the newly launched website, centraloregonwildandscenic.org, to discover the numerous opportunities for Central Oregonians to come together to raise awareness of our rivers and commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act.
