They Did It! Central Oregon Locavore Keeps Its Doors Open

Thank you Central Oregon!  Locavore achieved its $25,000 goal in less than two months. Through combined donations of more than 200 individuals, corporate and business sponsorships, an increase in business in the marketplace, new members, and a flood of support emails and messages, the community has voiced the value of Locavore in the local community and in local agriculture.

“We are overwhelmed by the passion, generosity, and support we have received from the community,” says Nicolle Timm, Locavore founder and president.

The nonprofit will keep its marketplace doors open and ardently continue with its mission to promote local food and farmers for the health and well-being of the community. Locavore has facilitated hundreds of volunteer hours on farms, connected dozens of farmers and ranchers with local chefs, grown access to local and sustainable food purchasing and distribution, taught thousands of children about healthy eating and agriculture, and promises to continue to support the community and the local food system in every way possible.

Local vegetable farmer David Kellner-Rode says, “As a local farmer, Locavore is an incredibly important income stream for our business and is a huge asset to our food system, food security, and community.”

To celebrate local community, agriculture, and the future of the marketplace, they are hosting their first ever, on-farm Farm-to-Table dinner September 16 at DD Ranch in Terrebonne. This family-style dinner will showcase grass-fed grass-finished beef from DD Ranch, local vegetables from Fields Farm, and artistically crafted cocktails from Crafted Life.

This dinner is sure to delight; from the beautiful views of Smith Rock, alluring scent of fall in the air, entrancing sound of Second Son musical duo and delicious taste of the six course fall harvest feast featuring the best of Central Oregon fare.
