Deschutes County Commissioner Alan Unger will lead a discussion between local leaders and the Joint Committee on Transportation Preservation and Modernization when the legislative committee comes to Central Oregon on Thursday, August 18. Unger is the chair of the Central Oregon Area Committee on Transportation which coordinates transportation needs and works to secure needed funding for the area.
Prior to a public hearing, scheduled for 5:30pm at Central Oregon Community College (COCC), committee members will take a tour of the region to see firsthand how population growth is impacting transportation systems in Bend and surrounding communities. The discussion with COACT will focus on economic development and the need for a more effective regional transit system, Unger said.
