The City of Sisters will celebrate the opening of its newest park on Saturday, September 27 from 10am to 1pm. Activities will include a dedication ceremony, entertainment from a local dance troupe, live music by the Anvil Blasters and a BBQ. The entire community is invited.

Fir Street Park was funded in part from a grant the City received from the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department. The Park was identified in the City’s 2011 Parks Master Plan as a top priority for the Sisters Park system, benefitting both local community members and tourists. The Park provides a unique place to recreate and relax with its location in the downtown core and has become a widely populargathering spot since its opening.

The community craftsman style pavilion was collaboratively constructed byKris Calvin of Earthwood Timber Frame Homes of Oregon, Eagle Scout Rory Peterson, Sisters Kiwanis Club and the City of Sisters and experienced its inaugural event during the Folk Festival. Jim Cornelius, former Folk Festival Board Chair, remarked to the City Council “the pavilion proved to be an excellent venue for the Americana Project performers”.

The tile design work at the park was a donation from Kathy Deggendorfer. The tiles were produced by Kibak Tile of Sisters and paid for with a grant from the Roundhouse Foundation. The fire pit was crafted by Ponderosa Forge and the City’s Public Works staff spent countless hours on landscaping, fence building and clean-up.

The splash pad has experienced instant success with children, dogs, adults and even the occasional bunny. One smart dog in Sisters has mastered the ability to turn the water on for its own personal entertainment and play! The City hopes to have a large turnout to celebrate Sisters’ most recent addition to the community.
