Go Golf! Play a Round – Fund a Cause – Feed Hungry People! In its third year honoring the legacy of the Rude Rudy’s Golf Tournament, and its commitment to feeding the hungry in Central Oregon, Newport Avenue Market’s Go Golf! Tournament participants will hit the links at Broken Top Golf Club on Wednesday, July 22. Proceeds will benefit the Hunger Prevention Coalition (HPC) of Central Oregon.

The event kicks off with a shotgun start at 10am with more than 150 community members and influential leaders from the grocery and retail industry dispersed around Broken Top’s beautiful, championship course.

What began as Rude Rudy’s golf tournament 32 years ago to show Newport Avenue Market’s appreciation for their vendors, has evolved into one of Central Oregon’s largest charitable golf tournaments, in which the community and vendors alike participate to help feed the hungry in Central Oregon. Participants have helped raise over $296,000 since the event moved into the charitable realm in 2007. The fundraising goal for this year alone is $50,000, with 100% of the proceeds going to Hunger Prevention Coalition.

GoGolf! participants will receive breakfast, lunch and goodie bags during their golf rounds. Following the tournament, guests will be offered dinner, beer and wine to enjoy during an awards ceremony that will include the standard golf tournament achievement awards and the presentation of the proceeds raised during the event.

“I am continually amazed by the support we receive during this event from our incredible sponsors,” states Lauren G.R. Johnson, Newport’s Leader of the Pack (vvvrrrooom!) and COO. “At Newport Avenue Market we have a family philosophy that no matter the person’s situation, everyone deserves a meal. There’s no better feeling than contributing to this worthy cause.”

The platinum sponsors this year include Broken Top Club, Budweiser, Kraft, Unified Grocers, Morgan Stanley-Jay Fain, Eberhard’s Dairy, United Salad, Mondelez International, Point Blank Distributing, and Newport Avenue Market.

HPC was formed in 2000 by a group of local citizens concerned about the lack of nutritious foods available through local agencies who feed those in need. Their mission is “Working Together to Increase Nutritious Foods for the Hungry in Central Oregon.” HPC provides funds to over 15 local non-profits to purchase meats, proteins, vegetables, milk, and other nutritious foods. HPC is also behind the “Help Fill Empty Plates” program to help eliminate hunger in the Central Oregon community. www.hungerpc.org
