BEND, Ore. — July 5, 2011 — Saving energy at home is easy when you know where to start — whether it’s following a list of simple, low-cost ideas that can be done in a few minutes or installing a larger improvement that can make a dramatic difference in comfort, as well as on your energy bill.

To help area residents make a plan for energy savings, Energy Trust of Oregon is offering two free Home Energy IQ workshops in Bend and Sunriver this July.

The first workshop will be held Wednesday, July 13 from 6-8 p.m., at the Sunriver Fire Department, 57475 Abbott Drive in Sunriver. A second workshop will be held Tuesday, July 26 from 6-8 p.m., at The Environmental Center, 16 NW Kansas Avenue in Bend.

Admission to the workshops is free and open to all residents. Registration is required. To sign up, visit www.energytrust.org/events or call 1-866-368-7878. Refreshments will be served.

“Most homes can waste a surprising amount of energy, and we want to help homeowners and renters put those energy dollars back in their pockets,” said Marshall Johnson, residential sector manager, Energy Trust. “This workshop provides a great first step to learning what will work best, both for the home and those who live in it.”

Led by an Energy Trust energy expert, the Home Energy IQ workshop covers practical ideas any homeowner or renter can try right away, along with bigger energy-saving strategies. All attendees receive a copy of the book Cut Your Energy Bills Now by Bruce Harley, a nationally recognized energy-efficiency expert. Customers of Pacific Power and Cascade Natural Gas will receive a free Energy Saver Kit filled with products for instant energy savings.

Workshop topics include:
· Finding a home’s biggest energy wasters
· Low-cost and no-cost energy-saving solutions
· Energy Trust cash incentives, and state and federal tax credits, that may make energy-efficiency improvements even more affordable
