On October 13, The Environmental Center will present its second annual Sustainability Awards at the Oxford Hotel, honoring businesses, organizations and individuals that are leading the way to a sustainable future in Central Oregon. Awards will be presented in four categories: Small Business (10 or less employees), Large Business (more than 10 employees), Organization (government and nonprofits) and Individual.
Nomination Applications can be downloaded at www.envirocenter.org and will be accepted from the public from August 1 through August 31. Self-nominations are encouraged and will be accepted.
Winning businesses and organizations will demonstrate a comprehensive commitment to a healthy environment, a vibrant economy, and an equitable society. These businesses are taking action, at the leadership and operating level, on a wide range of sustainable operating practices, and are engaged in leading their industry peers to do the same. They also create long-term, living wage opportunities for employees and enhance the quality of life in their local community through philanthropy, volunteerism and civic engagement.
The winning individual will be one who makes a significant contribution to making sustainability real in our community and sets an example for others to follow. The winner will demonstrate a comprehensive commitment to a healthy environment, a vibrant economy, and an equitable society. They will do this by modeling sustainable behavior in their personal life and taking action to embed sustainability into the broader community through their professional work and/or as a community volunteer, activist or leader.
