The Oregon Community Foundation distributed more than $890,000 in grants to Central Oregon nonprofit organizations during its recent grant cycle. These grants were part of a total of more than $7.7 million in grants made statewide.

As part of OCF’s efforts to enhance educational opportunities for Oregonians, OCF granted $40,000 to the County of Crook for video conferencing equipment at the Crook County Open Campus, for use in higher education and job re-training courses. This project is the result of strong partnerships between Crook County, Central Oregon Community College, Oregon State University, and 21 local agencies in order to establish a physical site where residents of Crook County can engage in distance learning through video conferencing.

OCF continues to place an emphasis on basic needs and emergency services and awarded the Partnership to End Poverty $30,000 for “Project Mobile Connect” to reach Central Oregon’s rural residents with a mobile health, dental and basic needs delivery system.  With the help of 350 volunteers, services will be provided at five sites in 2012, most likely reaching 1,000 low-income people.

As a community foundation, OCF works with individuals, families and businesses to create charitable funds to support the community causes they care about. Since 1973, OCF has distributed more than $500 million in grants and scholarships to improve the quality of life in Oregon.
