Volunteer Connect invites Central Oregonians of all ages to participate in our third annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service January 16.

Last year, Volunteer Connect’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service engaged over 350 volunteers in 26 different projects for over 1,000 hours of service to the community.

This year’s event on Monday, January 16 will feature 25 morning service projects with locations in Bend, Culver, La Pine, Prineville, Redmond, Madras and Sisters. Projects will take place from 9am-12pm and afterwards all volunteers are invited to a complimentary lunch and community discussion to reflect on their experiences.

Some examples of volunteer projects include painting for Bend Habitat for Humanity’s Neighborhood Revitalization project, sorting donations at Bend’s Community Center Warehouse, cleaning and sorting at St. Vincent de Paul in Redmond and La Pine chapters to name a few. Volunteer Connect offers some great ways to contribute to your community.

For those with a crafty side, they have some special hands-on projects such as making floral arrangements for local hospice patients at Friends with Flowers, helping make fleece blankets for the annual One-Night Homeless count and making crafts for senior citizens and local veterans.

Projects are available for groups, individuals and volunteers of all ages and interested volunteers are encouraged to visit our webpage to sign-up for a project and to browse our full list of projects (www.volunteerconnectnow.org/MLK). Volunteer Connect also welcomes community members to contact us directly to discuss all the options personally (541-385-8977).
