On July 15, 17 students and five staff members from Universities in Kazakhstan will be arriving in Bend to spend four days visiting businesses, non-profits and local educators to discuss effective leadership and business theory in the 21st Century.

Organized by Co-Serve International with support from the Deschutes Economic Alliance (DEA), the businesses we will be visiting are American Licorice, Bend Research, and Healing Reins Therapeutic Riding Center.

In addition, the students will receive presentations from local business leaders. Bob Newhart, CEO of The Innovation Center will be sharing concepts of Innovation in the 21st Century. Sandra Green, CEO of n-Link and a DEA Board Member, will be making a presentation on Servant Leadership and the power of employee-owned companies.

In addition, the students will participate in discussions covering ethics, leadership, organizational culture and “what works in the 21st Century”.

The DEA board and members of the Co-Serve Board will be hosting hors d’oeuvres and beverages at The Phoenix from 4-6: 30pm on Monday, July 16 and welcomes the business community to join us and engage with the students and host families. A number of community leaders have volunteered to act as “host families” for these students. The DEA and Co-Serve International will honor the host families and students at a dinner party following the hors d’oeuvres reception that evening.

At the conclusion of their visit, the students will be developing and writing their personal leadership plans to take back to Kazakhstan.
