NeighborImpact, with the support of CinderCone Clay Center and local area potters, is once again holding The Pottery Games, a fun, family friendly precursor event to the popular Empty Bowls fundraiser (on November 11 this year). This year’s event will be held at the CinderCone Clay Center (50 Scott Street, Bend, by Sparrow Bakery) from 5-9 pm, Saturday, July 28. Clay and wheels will be provided and John Kinder, potter extraordinaire, will be present to provide assistance to potters. This year will mark the 11th anniversary of this unique two-part fundraiser.

“I am proud to be a part of this important event. It is a great way for local artists to be able to give back using their time and talent, while providing all the bowls needed for the event in November”, said John Kinder of CinderCone Clay Center.

The Pottery Games are a free family friendly event open to the general public. All potters from the community are encouraged to participate. Everyone is invited to cheer local artisans on as they compete for medals and prizes in categories such as: the best and biggest bowl, best bowl thrown blind folded, best bowl thrown with no-hands, and lastly, using audience participation, best tandem thrown bowls. The Pottery Games are the kickoff to a frenzy of bowl throwing by local artists from now until November, when over 750 bowls will be used for the Empty Bowls fundraiser event benefiting NeighborImpact.

“Both of these events are a great community collaboration which enables NeighborImpact to provide vital services for those most in need right here in our community”, said Carolyn Tillia, Event Planner for Empty Bowls.
