Central Oregon Pediatric Associates Expands. SunWest Builders Selected as Contractor

Central Oregon Pediatric Associates [COPA] is undertaking a major building expansion and remodel at its east Bend location, beginning this week.  The practice remains open for patients and operating at normal capacity, seven days a week, during the remodel. Work is expected to be complete by late October.  COPA’s other two locations, on Bend’s west side and in Redmond, are not affected by the construction.

The building remodel includes an improved layout and floor plan that streamlines patient care and increases the efficiency of the medical team, which in turn saves times for families. Moving to a cutting-edge electronic health record (EHR) system created an opportunity for COPA to improve the workflow and accessibility of patient records and overall superior coordination of care.

The new COPA lobby provides for a more spacious, family friendly common area, offering additional privacy and comfort for new moms as well as areas for play or quiet reading for children of all ages. The plans also include a private newborn area for nursing mothers and even a place to refill water bottles for parents on the go.

SunWest Builders of Redmond has been contracted to complete the construction due to their extensive medical facility experience.

THE PRACTICE

COPA is the largest pediatric practice in Oregon outside the greater Portland area and the expansion is required to accommodate the growing needs of the region’s children.  Deschutes County population has grown 35 percent in the last decade and COPA treats the majority of children in Central Oregon.

COPA has responded to this increased need in the community by adding three new board certified pediatricians bringing the total to 18 medical providers. The practice also offers the region’s only Nurse Advice Phone Line for COPA patients to call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“We’ve delayed this much-needed expansion for as long as we can.  Due to recent technology improvements, additional specialists coming onboard and the general growth in our practice, it’s time to complete this final step.  We plan to continue operations, as usual, in spite of the work and we’ve reorganized our entryway to temporarily accommodate our patients and families,” says Wade Miller, CEO of Central Oregon Pediatric Associates.

In addition to providing regional pediatric care for newborns to adolescents, COPA doctors collaborate with other specialists from around the state to provide local care for children with chronic illnesses, keeping more families at home rather than traveling to Portland for treatment.  Visiting specialists use COPA’s facility as their home base for seeing Central Oregon children with chronic illnesses. The expanded waiting area, nursing stations and a more coordinated flow will further improve care and the experience for families and the visiting Pediatric Specialists while here to serve our families.

PEDIATRIC SPECIALISTS

COPA Pediatricians are all nationally board certified by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Each physician has extensive medical training and experience, focusing on the specialized needs of children.  COPA pediatricians stay up to date on the latest health care information for treating children and receiving continuing education on the advanced medical protocols for pediatric patients.

St. Charles Health System relies on COPA to treat children admitted to the hospital for serious illnesses, and conduct daily rounds in the hospital’s pediatric ward.  In addition, COPA is the primary care facility for Central Oregon children with chronic illnesses and cancer, who also receive treatments at the Children’s Hospitals in Portland.
