Olympians – Honoring Ashton Eaton

The City of Bend and the community will honor 2012 Olympic Decathlon Champion and Bend Mountain View High School graduate Ashton Eaton with a Parade of Olympians.  The event is scheduled for Sunday, September 23, at 1pm and is expected to include other Central Oregon Olympians, past and present.  Don’t miss the fun – bring your Olympic spirit and wear red, white and blue!

Local Olympians who have been asked to participate include:

Dick Hunt: Speed Skating – 1960-64 – two time Olympian

Jim Brennan: Ski Jumper — 1960 winter Games

Paul Hait: Swimmer — 1960 Olympic Games

Kiki Cutter: Skiier–1968 Olympic Games

Miki Mcfadden – 1968 Volleyball team

Cathy lmwalle: Swimmer — 1968 Mexico City Summer Olympics

Dan Simoneau: Skiier — 1984 Winter Olympics

Rich Gross- Biathlon — 1988 winter Games

Ben Husaby — Nordic skiing 1992-04 two time Olympian

Patrick Weaver: Skiier — 1995-2000 two time Olympian

Beckie Scott: Crosscountry Skiier – 1998-2006 three time Olympian

Suzanne King—Skiier – 1998-2000 – two time Olympian

Justin Wadsworth: Crosscountry Skiier – 2000-02 three time Winter Olympian

Torin Koos: Crosscountry Skiier – 2000-02 three time Winter Olympian

Chris Klug: Snowboarder — 2002 winter Olympics

The parade route will begin at Bond Street and Franklin Avenue, turn at Oregon Street, and continue down Wall Street to the Tower Theatre in Downtown Bend.  The “Parade of Olympians” will conclude with a program in front of the Tower Theatre.

Kids 10 and under are invited for a short fun run with Ashton from the Tower Theatre down Wall Street (no registration is required). Ashton will return to the Tower Theatre to sign autographs.
