Several local businesses have contributed to the 100th home including Bend Heating, Bend Painting, Building Solutions,  CertainTeed, Consolidated Supply, Deschutes Brewery, DOW, ECI, Jeld-Wen, Milgard, ProBuild, RockAll Drywall, Sterling Bank, Sunlight Solar, Sunset Plumbing, Top Notch Electric, Wells Fargo and Whirlpool.

On Friday, November 16,  Bend Area Habitat for Humanity will celebrate their 100th Home milestone with a Home Dedication Celebration event at 2856 NE Spring Water Place in Bend at 11:30am. The 100th Home will be sold to Amber Schmied and her daughter, Kassidie.

For more than 23 years, Bend Area Habitat has built and renovated 100 affordable homes serving low-income families in Bend and Crook Co. These homes have been sold to individuals and families with a 0% mortgage. By providing affordable housing to low-income families, families are realizing annual savings, on average, between $5,000-$6,000 which can be reinvested into the community; this totals between $645,000-$774,000.

Relative to the benefit and reinvestment in the community economically, the total property taxes paid by Habitat families since 1989 have eclipsed $1 million. Since Bend Area Habitat’s inception, assuming an average property value of $120,000, Habitat has added $15.5 million in assessed value of property. By providing affordable homes, Habitat is making a significant impact on individuals’ lives as well as benefitting this community.

Bend Area Habitat is thrilled to be able to celebrate their 100th home built by this amazing community of volunteers, businesses, and individuals and, of course, each family purchasing a Habitat home.

Amber Schmied and her daughter, Kassidie, will purchase the 100th Home from Bend Area Habitat. Amber says, “Being a part of this program means so much to me. Habitat has impacted every part of our life. Everything I have done from volunteering at the office to saving and budgeting has made me think about our future and our home. Habitat has given me the opportunity to provide a home for Kassidie and me that I didn’t think possible. Habitat has given me hope and I know we will have a sense of stability and security and I have the opportunity to use my skills to give back to the community at the same time.”

Bend Area Habitat for Humanity’s 100th Home is part of a world-wide effort to eliminate sub-standard housing for families like Amber’s who deserve to live in decent and affordable housing. Since 1976, Habitat International has served more than 500,000 families world-wide.
