This past August, Common Table, Bend’s nonprofit restaurant, closed their doors. After many brainstorming sessions and conversations, the idea of acting more as ‘host’ for meals and events was the one that stuck. December 2, 9, 16 & 23.

Recently, a Bend High School student approached Common Table and asked for assistance in hosting a fundraiser to benefit Syrian refugees. On November 11, Common Table resurfaced by hosting a pay-as-you’re-able “pop-up” event, ‘Songs, Spoken Word and Sacred Text for Syria’. With more than 50 attendees coming together for a Syrian meal and night of music and poetry, $526 was raised to benefit UNICEF.

Throughout December, Common Table will be hosting an event each Sunday evening at 231 NW Idaho, the space occupied six days a week by Family Kitchen in downtown Bend. The “Four Sundays of Advent” addresses the ongoing needs and struggles within ourselves and our community during this time of year. During a time that is historically known for hope and light, it is quickly becoming a time of increased consumerism, loneliness, darkness and sadness. Come join us as we seek to embrace our community and bring light, warmth and hope back to the holiday season.
