Preliminary start of $27 million dollar project begins today

An important step in the construction of the combined ODOT – City of Bend Murphy Road project on the south side of Bend gets underway on Tuesday, May 7.

ODOT maintenance crews and contract loggers will begin selective timber felling operations near the Third Street/Bend Parkway intersection in preparation for future construction activities in the area. The trees will be removed from the project right of way.

Motorists can expect to be affected by this operation, as crews will be controlling traffic at the site of the logging operation by the use of flaggers who will maintain safe passage for motorists. Flagging operations will commence at approximately 9am and end at about 4pm.

This operation is necessary as a preliminary step to begin the Murphy Road project, which will provide a bridge over the Parkway at Murphy Road and a southbound access ramp at the current Third Street intersection.

The $27 million dollar project bid is expected to be awarded during May and construction on the two year project will get underway later this summer.
