Mark Capell Plans to Run for Third Term as Bend City Counselor

Mark Capell announced Wednesday that he will run for re-election for a third term on the Bend City Council. Capell was elected to the Bend City Council in November 2006 and was reelected in November 2010. He is chair of Bend Metropolitan Planning Organization, chair of Bend Urban Renewal Agency, member of Deschutes Water Alliance Board and member of the Deschutes River Conservancy Board.

“We are in another growth spurt in Bend and we need to make sure that we manage it in such a way that we still want to be here and our quality of life continues to improve”, Capell said.

Capell outlined his key issues for the upcoming City Council term:

Infrastructure.  Between the sewer, water, and roads projects going on right now, we have more infrastructure projects going on than any time in the history of Bend.  It is critical that we manage these projects to get the most return on our investment.

Public Safety.  In both Police and Fire, we have made great strides in improving efficiency.  With the recently passed operating levy for Fire, we will have much better response times.  We need to keep looking for additional efficiencies and continue to improve the service to Bend.

Economic Development.  We have made great strides in making the City easier to work with.  As we grow, we need to keep diversifying our economy and having City Councilors that understand business.

“I believe that if we lose focus of these issues and the investment that is required to help make sure that land and space is available for our incoming and local companies to grow we could again see Bend in a position that we are stymied and stuck in another recession” said Capell.

Capell opened CMIT Solutions in October 2002. CMIT Solutions offers computer training, troubleshooting/repair, installation, networking, and consulting for both home and business computer users. They have five employees.

Prior to moving home to Bend in 2002, Capell was in marketing with Sprint in Dallas, Texas for four years where he was in charge of Sprint’s intranet sites and an $80 million dollar advertising budget. He was in planning and sales management at American Airlines for ten years living in Tulsa, Nashville, Ft. Worth, Chicago, and Austin. Prior to that, he worked in his families travel agencies in central and southern Oregon.

Capell has been married to Jeanni Capell for 33 years, is a graduate of Bend High School and Southern Oregon University, and is a fourth generation resident of Bend.
