$20,000 grant helps fund transport van to save precious lives. Robberson Ford in Bend, Oregon contributed $5,000 towards the purchase and wrap of the Traveling Tails transport van.

The Humane Society of Central Oregon (HSCO) has been awarded a $20,000 grant from the Petco Foundation to support its animal transport program, Traveling Tails. The grant enabled the shelter to purchase a Ford Transit 250 van that will transport animals from overcrowded shelters to HSCO, as well as transport animals to other shelters and rescue groups for a new ‘leash’ on life.

The Humane Society of Central Oregon is a nonprofit organization that cares for nearly 3,000 abandoned, stray, neglected, surrendered and abused animals annually. There are millions of homeless pets in the United States and globally. HSCO has the benefit of being in the Pacific Northwest, where there is a high demand to adopt animals. The shelter has high placement rates and is very successful reuniting people with their pets. Central Oregon is a community that embraces animal adoption, and HSCO’s Traveling Tails animal transfer program brings homeless pets to Central Oregon to meet the demand.

The HSCO Transfer program has been created to build strong relationships with other animal welfare organizations that foster the relocation and adoption of pets into loving homes. The Transfer Program is comprised of partners in Central Oregon, the state of Oregon, and beyond.

The Petco Foundation investment enabled HSCO to purchase a Ford Transit 250 van to safely transport animals in need of loving homes. “This vehicle allows the Humane Society of Central Oregon to not only save the lives of hundreds of animals per year, as most animals will be coming from shelters that have high euthanasia rates, but also get them into new homes quickly,” said Sabrina Slusser, Executive Director.
