The Prineville – Crook County Airport is once again hosting a Fly-In on Saturday July 25 from 8am to 2pm. Everyone is welcome at this event because it has something for just about every interest and age group.

The Crook County Rodders, which promotes itself as “a car club for all car lovers, no restrictions on year, make or model” will display up to 50 of their members’ cars. The Crook County Sheriff Search and Rescue volunteer organization will display a vast array of equipment. The Bend Aero Modelers, a non-profit group that promotes model aviation and the joy of radio controlled (R/C) flying, will be demonstrating their planes throughout the day. And the Humane Society of the Ochocos will have adoptable pets on hand for folks to walk and play with.

But it’s not just about “big boy toys” and equipment at the Fly-In. The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) will host a scrumptious pancake breakfast; the Prineville Kiwanis Club, along with the Prineville Lions Club, will be cooking-up a fabulous hotdog and hamburger lunch; and the Prineville Airport and Crook County – Prineville Chamber of Commerce will be treating everyone to ice cream from Eberhard’s Dairy!

“Every year this event attracts more and more people from around the state. The variety of displays and things to do, along with good food and a gorgeous location is what’s bringing folks back every year,” said Kelly Coffelt, Prineville Airport Manager.

One of the big draws every year is the number of antique planes that fly in from all over the state. Up to 50 planes are expected this year, many coming from museums and special collections that are sure to impress the crowd.

And for those folks who are new to flying, or who are interested in pursuing a flying career, several “discovery flights” are being offered during the event. The Prineville Kiwanis Club will be raffling-off plane rides; the High Desert Soaring Clubwill be offering glider rides for a fee; the Hillsboro Aero Academy’s instructors will be on-hand giving fixed-wing plane rides for a fee; and Leading Edge Aviation will offer helicopter rides also for a fee.

The airport is located at 4585 SW Airport Road in Prineville.
