The Oregon Commission on Historic Cemeteries will offer a historic cemetery and marker repair workshop July 18 near Tumalo. All of the events are free and open to the public.

The workshop will be from 9:30am-4:30pm at the Tumalo Pioneer Cemetery, about 1.8 miles north of Tumalo on the Cline Falls Highway. The free workshop will address marker assessment, cleaning, leveling and repair.

Participants should bring their lunch, snacks, water to drink, a stool or folding chair to sit on, gloves to wear, a hat, sunscreen, appropriate clothing as this is a hands on workshop, comfortable shoes, a pen and note pad and camera if they want to take photos during the workshop.

In conjunction with the workshop, the Oregon Commission on Historic Cemeteries will also conduct a public meeting in Bend from 1-4pm July 17 at the Deschutes Historical Museum, 129 NW Idaho Ave.

State law established the seven-member commission to maintain a listing of all historic cemeteries and gravesites in Oregon; promote public education on the significance of historic cemeteries; and help obtain financial and technical assistance for restoring, improving and maintaining their appearances.
