Webfoot Painting announces the sixth annual Carving for Kids event to benefit MountainStar Family Relief Nursery. It will take place Saturday, October 24 from 10am-5pm at Newport Avenue Market in Bend. The goal this year is to raise $15,000 in support of MountainStar’s mission to prevent child abuse, which would best last year’s record of $12,000 raised.

The entire community is invited to participate in Carving for Kids! Webfoot Painting will be on-site selling ready-to-carve pumpkins for $15 and volunteers will be on hand to help kids create their own jack-o-lanterns.

Pre-carved pumpkins will also be available for purchase and, for a donation of $200+, businesses can pre-order custom pumpkins with their logo carved in a stunning relief pattern. All proceeds from the Carving for Kids event benefit MountainStar Family Relief Nursery and Tim Rusk, the organization’s Executive Director, says, “Carving for Kids is just plain fun! It’s amazing to see the Webfoot Painting team use pumpkins to raise more funds every year to support our efforts. We’re incredibly grateful to them for how much they do on behalf of our local community.”

Webfoot Painting staff members volunteer their time harvesting, loading and delivering over 35,000 pounds of pumpkins (donated by Central Oregon Pumpkin Co.), then spend two full days carving and preparing the pumpkins for the event. They’re always recruiting skilled carvers; if you are one or know one, call MountainStar to sign up (541-322-6820). Carving for Kids takes place in the front parking lot of Newport Avenue Market, located at 1121 NW Newport Avenue in Bend. About MountainStar Family Relief Nursery
MountainStar Family Relief Nursery’s mission is to prevent child abuse by working with families living in crisis in Deschutes, Jefferson, and Crook counties. The households served have an average of 18 risk factors for child abuse and neglect, including poverty, homelessness, mental health issues, domestic violence, and substance abuse. MountainStar provides crisis intervention and nationally-accredited therapeutic classes for babies and toddlers, as well as other services aimed at strengthening these vulnerable families. Young children represent half of the victims of child abuse in Oregon and need someone to intervene on their behalf when they are at such a critical stage of development. Relief Nurseries have documented success in reducing family risk factors for child abuse and neglect, improving family functioning and self-sufficiency, and reducing foster care utilization.
