Umbrella Broadens for Preventative & Alternative Health Treatments
Post Universal Medical Coverage Legislation

Austin Baillie, owner and manager of Recharge gym, says as universal requirements for health coverage have kicked into action, many of his clients are requesting insurance reimbursements for services rarely covered several years ago.

Among treatments and preventative care often covered are deep-tissue and Thai massage, acupuncture, nutrition counseling and physical therapy. Baillie explains, “Recharge works very closely with Focus Physical Therapy, in fact, we share treatment space. They know just what to do to get their patients back in action as soon as possible and once their patients graduate from physical therapy, many of them become clients of Recharge to continue working towards optimum health.”

Jamie Lee Kruse, sport and Thai massage therapist at Recharge says the benefits of massage are endless. “Increased range of motion and synovial fluid in the joints, improved flexibility, decreased muscle soreness, release of adhesions in the muscle fibers and fascia, release of trigger points, reduced tension in the body and faster recovery time after training or activity are just some of the benefits. A professional will tailor massage sessions to the individual and massage can be utilized before or after training or event.

“It is becoming common practice for insurance companies to offer coverage for massage therapy and others will reimburse the client. At Recharge we provide our clients a receipt that includes all of the information needed by the insurance company to reimburse for the therapy appointment.”

Baillie notes, outside of coverage and reimbursement, “Many employers now offer health savings accounts (HSA) to their employees, which typically cover the services offered by Recharge as well.
Recharge was established in the summer of 2014. Their mission is to help people reach their optimum levels of health and fitness and strive to provide affordable, accessible and professional-grade recovery and fitness services in an educational and fun environment.

Maintaining a full-service gym space they emphasize functional fitness and performance through natural human movements rather than use of weight machines. Their space is comprised of a large open turf area for performing drills (using foam rollers, plyometrics, sled-pushes, kettlebells, dumbbells, barbells, squat racks, medicine balls, resistance bands and calisthenic equipment), a group fitness room for classes (balance, functional fitness and yoga), a cardio space (treadmills, stationary bikes, rowing machines and elliptical bikes) and their hallmark, a recovery lounge.
Before the other fitness amenities, Recharge was totally recovery lounge centric. Baillie says the concept is an offering of, “Cutting-edge and tried-and-true pieces of equipment that are designed to help active people recover faster and feel better.” Equipment includes pneumatic massage boots, ice compression machines, therapeutic laser devices with electric stimulation, hot and cold therapy pools, an infrared sauna and self-massage tools.

When asked about health care company’s migration to include more preventative and fitness linked coverage, Baillie offers, “Fitness and health are synonymous. Fitness usually refers to the gross physical composition and capabilities of a body, whereas health generally refers to one’s overall well-being in a very broad sense, but they are ultimately just different points on the same spectrum. You can’t be fit if you aren’t healthy, and you aren’t healthy if you aren’t fit.”

He likens services at Recharge to a healthy eating plan: if a person commits to use the services offered at Recharge on a regular basis, then they will experience dramatic improvements in their overall health and performance. They will recovery from fatigue and injuries faster, sleep better and perform their chosen sport or activity at a higher level.

Recharge clients can look forward to a facility expansion later this summer.
