Redmond Festival of Cultures to Include Ceremony Where 19 Local People Will Become Citizens

On Saturday, September 26, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ (USCIS) Portland Field Office will naturalize 19 immigrants in Redmond. The ceremony will be part of Redmond’s Festival of Cultures, sponsored by the Latino Community Association.

Offering the keynote address will be Jose Balcazar, vice president of the Latino Community Association. The Festival, a beloved annual event, is rich with colorful performances, exotic foods, children’s activities and booths reflecting cultural diversity. USCIS will also host an information booth. The Central Oregon Showcase group will sing the national anthem.

Five people from Mexico will become U.S. citizens at this event and two from the Philippines. Also represented are Benin, China, India, Israel, Jordan, the Netherlands, Peru, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, Venezuela and the United Kingdom – 14 nations in all.
