Splash for Pink, an annual breast cancer care benefit, invites Oregonians to kick summer into full gear on June 27 with a fun-filled day of guided white water rafting on the Deschutes River, local barbecue and microbrew, live music, kids’ activities, silent auction and more.
Net proceeds from the event will be donated to three Oregon beneficiaries: OHSU Knight Cancer Institute in Portland, the Celilo Cancer Center fund at the Mid-Columbia Health Foundation in The Dalles and Sara’s Project at St. Charles Health Foundation in Central Oregon.
Driven to support family members – and all Oregonians – who have been affected by breast cancer, the Maupin Chamber of Commerce and Maupin-based Imperial River Company invite the public to sign up for the festivities, starting with a 13-mile guided rafting trip, all in the name of fighting breast cancer.
“Many Maupin Chamber of Commerce members have family members who have suffered from the disease, giving this cause an important place in our hearts,” says Susie Miles, owner of Imperial River Company.
Members and supporters of Splash for Pink insist that donating the raised money to local beneficiaries is what makes this event so special.
“Celilo Cancer Institute, for example, has been such a wonderful support for our cancer-stricken community members and families,” adds Miles. “Knowing this money goes there, rather than out of state, is what makes this event awesome!”
Guided rafting tours can be booked for a $69 donation per person (includes a Pink T-shirt) for a three-hour excursion, trips depart at 10am and 1pm on Saturday, June 27 at the Imperial River Company 304 Bakeoven Rd., Maupin.
The public is also invited to enjoy a barbecue lunch (for a $10 donation), as well as family-friendly activities throughout the day.
Suitable for adults and children, the benefit is sponsored by Ruger, Widmer Brothers, Olson’s Bicycles in Forest Grove, Bug’s Bad Ass BBQ, and many more companies and individuals.
