Charity Poker Tournament Comes to Bend, Oregon

Kemple Memorial Children’s Dental Clinic and The Dental Foundation of Oregon (DFO) Tooth Taxi will be co-beneficiaries of a poker tournament fundraiser taking place in Bend on September 20.

Sponsored and hosted by BnK Construction, Inc., the DFO-Kemple Charity Poker Tournament will offer a casual evening of Texas Hold’em, prizes and fun, with all proceeds supporting Kemple Clinic and DFO’s mission to improve the oral health of Oregon’s uninsured, underinsured and underserved children.

DFO has held the tournament in Portland for several years but this is the first time the event has made its way to Central Oregon. Suzanne Browning, Kemple Clinic’s executive director says, “With great food and drinks, not to mention professional dealers, this event promises to be a whole lot of fun for players and non-players alike. Local businesses have contributed some fabulous prizes and we’re certain this year’s tournament will be the first of many.”

The buy-in for the tournament is $25 per player and a $100 donation to DFO is strongly suggested. Space is limited so players are encouraged to register early by calling 503-594-0880 or emailing Foundation@SmileOnOregon.org.

About Kemple Memorial Children’s Dental Clinic
Kemple Clinic was founded in 1998 by retired dentist and long-time Bend resident, Dr. H.M. Kemple. Dr. Kemple’s mission was to eliminate pediatric oral disease. To this day, Kemple Clinic strives to support that mission by providing free, high quality, on-site and offsite dental screenings and preventative education needed to promote the oral health and overall well-being of children in our community. By the end of the school year, Kemple will have screened more than 5,000 school children during their School-Based Screen and Seal Programs, providing nearly 10,000 parents with a written basic dental screening, reinforcing regular visits to the dentist. Kemple’s on-site clinic also offers on-site hygiene appointments (cleanings, x-rays, risk assessments) at the clinic for uninsured, underinsured and/or underserved children in Central Oregon. If, upon assessment, acute dental treatments are necessary, Kemple Clinic works with more than 70 volunteer dentists in Central Oregon to deliver these urgent and critical dental treatment services to at risk children in Central Oregon.

About DFO
Founded in 1982 by the Oregon Dental Association, the DFO works to improve the oral health of Oregon’s under-served children through advocacy, community grants to non-profit dental clinics and by taking dental care and oral health education directly to children on the Tooth Taxi mobile dental van. Since its inception in 2008, the Tooth Taxi has visited over 267 schools/sites all over the State of Oregon, and served over 15,000 children while delivering over four million in donated dental services.
