The Deschutes County Health Services Emergency Preparedness Program is sponsoring a conference for its Public Health Reserve Corp members on Friday, November 7, from 9am to 2pm. This conference, which was planned well before the national Ebola response began, addresses some relevant communicable disease scenarios.
The Conference will take place at the Deschutes Services Building in the first-floor Barnes and Sawyer Rooms, 1300 NW Wall Street in Bend. Preregistration was required for this conference, which has reached capacity.
Speakers will include Richard Leman, MD, chief medical officer for the health security, preparedness and response program of the Oregon Health Authority and Rebecca Sherer, MD, medical director of occupational health and infection prevention and control at St. Charles Health System. They will be covering Epidemiology and Outbreak Investigation and Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment respectively.
The keynote speaker for the conference is Alan Jamison, MD, retired pediatrician with more than 25 years’ experience in general pediatric private practice. Since “retirement,” he has participated in numerous disaster relief and humanitarian missions around the globe.
Most recently, Dr. Jamison returned from West Africa where he provided clinical care for patients in the Ebola Treatment Unit in Monrovia and assisted in the Ebola Training Program for Community Health Works in Grand Cape County in Liberia.
His presentation, A Personal Perspective on Ebola Caregiving, is timely as local and national public health response efforts try to gain a better understanding of the root of this devastating disease.
