Winged Wonders explores the fascinating world of flight. With special programs, exhibits and kids camps, science comes to life at the High Desert Museum. Just in the past year the Museum has introduced people to animal forensics, captured the magic of electricity and addressed the importance of H2O.
This holiday season the Museum’s team of wacky scientists will have you laughing and cheering as you explore the fascinating world of flight. Humor, audience participation, and hands-on experiments are all part of the Science Party program.
“Every year our Museum educators and wildlife staff pull together a 30-minute program that brings science to life for the whole family,” said Museum President Dana Whitelaw. “Last year we did an electrifying show with Professors AC and DC.This year it’s the Captain and his co-pilot Buzz, who’s actually a bumble bee. It’s a little silly, but it’s a great way for kids and their parents to learn about the science of flight.”
The program runs twice daily, from Saturday, November 22 until November 29. Show times are 11:30am and 1:30pm. Tickets can be purchased at the front desk, or in advance on the website. The cost is $3 for members, $5 for non-members.
A barn owl and a falcon will fly overhead, demonstrating their unique flight adaptations. Then the audience will compare birds of prey to insects, which are often called nature’s helicopters. Kids will test different types of wings and participate in experiments demonstrating theories of drag, lift, thrust and wing shape.
If you’re interested in birds, planes or any other form of flight, you won’t want to miss Science Party: Winged Wonders. It’s educational fun for all ages.
