Can you think of a better way to usher in the holidays than a jaunt down an off-street path with Christmas lights adorning your route? Bend Bikes will host a leisurely, family-friendly tour of the Larkspur Trail on Saturday, December 13.
The event is timed to coincide with the Larkspur Neighborhood Association’s Light Up the Larkspur Trail which invites all trail users (walkers, strollers, saunterers and lollygaggers) to enjoy one of Bend’s best kept secrets: a four-mile off-street trail that runs north/south on Bend’s eastside. Even little ones with pedal-free Striders or training wheels can happily join the fun as the grade is minimal and there’s only one street crossing at a quiet neighborhood cul-de-sac between Bear Creek Road and Larkspur Park.
The Association will make door-to-door requests of residents who border the trail to decorate their backyards and help light up the Larkspur during the month of December.
“The Larkspur Neighborhood Association is excited about our neighbors lighting up the Larkspur Trail for the holidays,” says Patricia Moran, the Larkspur Neighborhood Association’s board chair. “We hope this ride will bring more attention to this gem on Bend’s eastside.”
For those who want to begin from the west side, meet at 6pm at Bend Electric Bikes on 223 NW Hill Street in Bend to decorate and light up bikes. The event is free and warming refreshments will be provided. From Hill Street, we’ll ride en masse over to the Larkspur Trail and tour the Christmas decorations. Those who would rather join the event nearer the trailhead are encouraged to meet outside the Bend Senior Center at 7pm.
