Community members and organizational representatives will gather February 26, at 6pm at the First Presbyterian Church in Bend to discuss Fair Shot For All: a statewide coalition pushing for real policy solutions that address economic inequality and give every Oregonian an opportunity to succeed. Participants to discuss major policy issues that address economic inequality, give every Oregonian an opportunity to succeed.
Priorities include:
Raising the minimum wage;
Ensuring all Oregonians earn paid sick days;
Ending profiling;
Making saving for retirement easier; and
Giving every Oregonian a second chance at earning a paycheck.
These policy issues are at the center of the national economic debate and align with the priorities of many Central Oregon labor, community, and faith organizations, including Central Oregon Strong Voice and the Central Oregon Social Justice Center.
Participants will discuss the fight to address economic inequities in Oregon and fix outdated, broken rules about work, wages and planning for our futures. Those attending will also hear directly from real Oregonians who are suffering the most from our broken economy and need a fair shot to get ahead, not just get by.

Who: A diverse group of community and labor groups that are mobilizing Oregonians in communities across the state and giving a voice to those who need a fair shot. This includes Family Forward Oregon, SEIU, the Urban League of Portland, Oregon AFL-CIO, Center for Intercultural Organizing, Oregon Education Association, CAUSA, Basic Rights Oregon, UFCW, Rural Organizing Project, AFSCME, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Oregon, PCUN, and Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon.
Why: The status quo simply doesn’t work for many of us—women, people of color, LGBTQ communities, immigrants and working families. And the polling shows voters are clearly fed up and calling for change.
Corporations are profiting off low-wage, no-benefit jobs and relying on state subsidies to make up the gaps for Oregon families who are working but still can’t get by.
With many communities still struggling in the face of long-standing inequities, and a growing gap between the wealthy and working families, it’s time for elected officials to fix what’s broken about our economy and create real opportunity for every Oregonian.
