The businesses of Brookswood Meadow Plaza in southwest Bend are gearing up for upcoming construction road closures and encouraging community members to stay upbeat and shop local during the coming months. In addition to the diverse range of products and services already offered at the Plaza, a special line-up of summer events there will be geared toward providing opportunities for residents to “stay in the neighborhood” and drive less.
The entire area is bracing for a series of road closures starting May 11-13 with Baker Road, when Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad (BNSF) will be repaving the railroad crossing there. That will be followed immediately on Thursday, May 14th, with a nearly four-month closure of Brookswood Boulevard between Pinebrook Blvd. and Lodgpole Dr. for construction of a roundabout as part of the Murphy Road Extension. The Brookswood Blvd. roundabout is scheduled to be under construction until September 4, 2015.
“We want everyone to know that the businesses of Brookswood Plaza are open during the road construction and are working together to offer opportunities for residents in the affected areas to avoid extra time on the road and get what they need locally,” said Cricket Kadoch, the Plaza’s Community Relations Representative.
“C.E. Lovejoy’s Brookswood Market, with it’s Love Handles Growler Depot, is partnering with local breweries, bands, La Rosa Mexican Kitchen, and Local Slice Pizza to offer a series of Summer Beer Garden and Music events on Thursdays from 4-7pm, starting May 21. They will also be hosting a Summer Carnival for kids in early August. Cascade Custom Pharmacy and the Red Cross are bringing the Bloodmobile to the Plaza from 12-5pm on Tuesday, May 26 for a community blood drive. We are also working with Commute Options to host a Bicycle Education Celebration and group ride in July to encourage the use of alternative transportation in the area.”
“With the Market, restaurants, coffee shop, animal clinic, pharmacy, chiropractic clinic, yoga and Kung Fu studio, preschool, gym, flower store, offices, and Goodwill mobile donation center, it’s a little oasis here for our southern Bend and Deschutes River Woods neighbors,” she continued. “We’ll all experience some inconvenience during the closures, but we’re encouraging people to drive carefully, stay positive and shop local to help make it through!”
Brookswood Meadow Plaza is Bend’s uniquely-local shopping and dining destination, offering prime retail, office and restaurant space. The Plaza serves the entire south Bend area and provides a convenient center for business, events, and community, anchored by Lovejoy’s Market. Located on Brookswood Boulevard just south of Elk Meadow Elementary School and one mile north of Baker Road at the corner of Amber Meadow Drive, this neighborhood hub is at the base of Bend Area Transit’s Brookswood Route 2.
