Steele Associates Architects Back to the Future

Steele Associates Architects has moved back to their original location at 686 NW York Drive, #150, in Bend. Olivia and I developed and built both buildings said Scott Steele, president/founder of Steele Associates Architects.

“Ten years ago we had our open house in 686 NW York, then sold the building at the height of the market about a year and half later when offers started coming in. We really liked NorthWest Crossing for our staff and business so we built our new LEED Gold Certified (the first Gold rated in Bend) mixed-use office building at 760 NW York and moved in 2007. We had several great tenants in addition to ourselves and really enjoyed the sustainable aspects of the building such as 90 percent access to daylight and view, locker rooms, and the roof terrace.”

Due to the strong market they decided to sell the building as part of their empty nester planning. “Robert Raimondi and Peter May of Compass Commercial were our brokers and they did an outstanding job marketing the building and guiding us through the deal,” explained Steele.

“The buyer wanted the Steele Associates suite so when we started looking for space we were very pleased that our original building only a hundred yards away was available. It’s probably an understatement to say our firm likes NorthWest Crossing when we have designed nine commercial buildings here including two of our own and Hydro Flask’s upcoming new facility.

“And though we love both buildings we always favored the more “warehouse chic” feel of our original design studio. We designed 686 NW York to be a highly sustainable building and a built example of the design opportunities of concrete block. We’re still proud of the masonry detail and handsome robust quality of the building.

“So please take note of our new address in the copper roofed building, and if you arrive at our old building by mistake just go one hundred yards south and you’ll find us, and like Yogi said, ‘It’s déjà vu all over again.’”
