Awesome Bend has announced the finalists who will vie for its next quarterly grant of $1,000 at Pitch Night on July 21. The event will be held 6pm to 8:30pm at the Deschutes Brewery Tap Room, 1044 NW Bond Street in downtown Bend and is free and open to the public. Finalists will present their ideas for making Bend a better place to live, work or play and a group of ten trustees who each donate $100 to form the collective grant will select the winner.

The finalists include:

Cob Project Campus: a community garden to provide produce to local food banks and soup kitchens and teach permaculture skills to the hungry

Community Bike Repair Stand: a tuning stand with air pump to encourage bike commuting

Family Photo Day in the Park: free portraits for needy families

Kid and Kar Inspection: free simultaneous 12-point health screenings of both children and the family car

Save the Monarchs: a milkweed planting project to increase the Monarch butterfly population

“Pitch Night is like Shark Tank for community good,” said Pam Stevenson, the Dean of Awesomeness. “The trustees were very excited about the quality of the applications we received for our this round of funding. Our mission is to inspire and support those ideas with some money and mentorship to help turn them into reality.”
