As we approach the final summer months, it’s important to remember that kitten season is still purring along. BrightSide Animal Center in Redmond has a new variety of healthy, vaccinated and neutered kittens available for adoption daily.
Since the month of May, BrightSide Animal Center has received 123 kittens -often without their mothers. This influx of kittens requires a dedicated group of volunteers willing to bottle feed kittens or foster moms and babies until the kittens reach two pounds.
“This year’s kitten crop is amazingly healthy,” says Wendy Monzulla, BrightSide foster guru. “Our kitten population is consistent with last year’s numbers. We’ve recorded only a slight 6 percent increase in kittens. I’m not sure if we can attribute population maintenance to our low-cost spay/neuter clinic and a community where fighting pet overpopulation is a top priority or random luck.”
An unspayed female cat can have up to three litters annually, so feline populations can easily explode.
