E-Design: A Modern Approach to Interior Design

During the construction of her custom home, Lindsay Foster-Drago jumped headlong into the design process. She fully embraced the opportunity to develop and express her family’s personal style through the finishes, furnishings and décor she and her husband Jim Drago carefully chose.

Two years later and inspired to launch her own interior design company, Foster-Drago started thinking about E-Design, a business model that worked well with her other job—mom to three-year-old son Baylor.

From her Spanish-style home located in Madras’ Yarrow neighborhood, Foster-Drago recently launched Casa Drago Interiors, offering clients online design services. Casa Drago provides approachable interior design via email communications and focuses on giving clients more “bang” for their budget.

Engaging with clients online allows Foster-Drago to avoid higher consultation and travel expenses and is an easier way to accommodate the busy schedules of Casa Drago’s clientele. “For many clients, it is more comfortable to work remotely with a designer than scheduling in-person meetings,” said Lindsay. It also is helping to expand her business. Lindsay continues to gain clients through personal connections, but Casa Drago is finding more projects through online resources such as Pinterest and Instagram.

The Casa Drago E-Design process begins with the client filling out an online questionnaire and including photos of the project space. Once a budget is in place, Casa Drago creates a customized design board showing how the items, colors and textures will blend in the space. That is followed by a layout of the project and a shopping list, detailing where the client can purchase each item and its cost.

Lindsay describes her style as clean and simple, with an eye for comfortable, inviting pieces. “As a mom, I realize the importance of selecting items that are both durable and fun. My focus is on helping people belong in their space.”

Keeping client budgets in mind, Foster-Drago appreciates the design balance of saving and splurging, using a mix of high/low pieces from a variety of box and niche retailers. “Moving to a small town turned me into an avid online shopper. My familiarity with online products allows me to pick an item with the right look, at the right price-whether it be from IKEA, Serena & Lily, West Elm or Target.”

The Casa Drago moniker is an affectionate nod to the name the couple gave their home, which features an interior inspired by the light and airy look of coastal Mexico living.
