In order to place a large number of rescued cats, Cat Rescue, Adoption & Foster Team (CRAFT) is asking for the public’s support. While all local shelters have just a few cats, CRAFT has over 60 needing homes.
A special open house is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, February 27 and 28, from 1 to 5 PM.
Visitors can meet the volunteers and cats in the main sanctuary building, as well as those in the special needs building where cats that are very senior, require ongoing medication or special food, are toothless, blind or otherwise ‘special’ live. These cats can also be adopted into appropriate homes. The facility is primarily cage-free and visitors will be able to interact with the cats.
The media is encouraged to stop by!
There will be raffles for custom cat trees valued at over $100 each and post scratchers provided by Willowtree Woodworks, gift certificates from Dudley’s Bookshop Café in downtown Bend, dinner for two at Anthony’s in the Old Mill, a $25 gift certificate from Bend Pet Express, a $20 gift certificate to Barnes & Noble, $10 gift certificates for stores in the Old Mill District, and handmade gift bags & baskets full of fun cat stuff valued at over $60. Beverages and snacks will be provided for visitors.
CRAFT is a no-kill organization and cares for cats for their natural life regardless of age, medical condition, etc. The only time it is appropriate for a no-kill organization to euthanize is if, per a veterinarian, an animal cannot be helped and is suffering. Needing medications or being old is no reason to have to die.
If a cat is adopted from CRAFT and the adopter finds that they can no longer provide necessary care, or for any other reason, CRAFT will accept the cat back. An adoption needs to work well for both the animal AND the person or family.
The sanctuary is located at 65480 78th St., Bend. If people wish to donate financially: the mailing address PO Box 6441, Bend, OR 97708, or through PayPal. Thank you!
