On April 24 Locavore’s marketplace will close its doors at its current Makers District location and moving north to 1841 NE Third Street near Habitat Restore and across the street from the Wagner Mall in Bend. Locavore will reopen on May 4 to continue being Bend’s only indoor farmers market.
From backyard pick-up to warehouse to brick-and-mortar, Locavore has continued to grow and flourish since its sprouting in 2009. The grassroots nonprofit has pioneered the local food scene in Central Oregon and hopes to continue to propagate further accessibility of local food.
The new location offers better accessibility and ease with a parking lot, business highway 97 entrance, and even more local products.
“We hope that the new location is even more of a Local Food Hub. We want to make local food even more accessible and welcome all customers, producers, volunteers, farmers, and ranchers who want to gather in our space to create community and strengthen Central Oregon’s food security.”
Locavore is celebrating the move with two “farewell” events: the Good Bye Garden Party and the “Last Supper.” The Good Bye Garden Party will feature music by local celebrity Greg Botsford, local food hor d’oeuvres, wine tasting from Naked Winery, Volcano Vineyards and Maragas winery, along with a sneak preview of the new logo and new location.
The Last Supper is part of its quarterly Community Supper meals featuring local food masterfully crafted by local chefs and served family-style by volunteer community members. Community Supper will be served at the 1216 NE First Street location and will be a Mexican-themed menu created by Chef Bethlyn Rider of Bethlyn’s Global Fusion featuring some classics with a twist: Albondiga soup, Fried Avocado Salad and Glazed Beef Fajitas. ¬¬
