Trout Unlimited, a national conservation organization dedicated to conserving, protecting and restoring North America’s coldwater fisheries and their watersheds, has awarded the 2011 Trout Unlimited Annual Meeting to Bend. This announcement comes on the heels of the 2010 Annual Meeting in Waterville, New Hampshire where the executive committee voted on Bend as the destination for 2011.

“Visit Bend and our entire conservation community is honored and thrilled to be hosting Trout Unlimited and their members for a week of meetings, fishing and conservation work,” said Kevney Dugan, sports development manager for Visit Bend. “This is a great opportunity to introduce Bend to new visitors from across the country and share with them the exciting conservation work and natural beauty that make Central Oregon so special.”

The dates for the 2011 Trout Unlimited Annual Meeting are September 14-17 and the meeting is expected to attract several hundred attendees from across the country.  Visit Bend will work with Trout Unlimited over the coming months to identify meeting spaces, host hotels and locations for other meeting activities.  Trout Unlimited has a membership base of over 20,000 in the Pacific Northwest and over 140,000 nationally.

“While all of the bids Trout Unlimited received to host this event were very impressive, Bend’s community-wide support, numerous conservation projects, endless fishing opportunities and commitment to producing a first-class event convinced us that Bend would be a very worthy host city,” said Bryan Moore, vice president of volunteer operations and watershed programs for Trout Unlimited.
