The Pacific Northwest Clean Water Association (PNCWA) is partnering with Upper Deschutes Watershed Council for a watershed stewardship service project on Saturday, October 15.The project is in conjunction with the annual conference of the professional organization being held in Bend.
PNCWA is providing funding for the plant material and the labor to improve the riparian area of the Deschutes River near the Bill Healy Bridge. The riverside area has been overused by people accessing the river, and the goal of the project is to improve the vegetation and encourage use of formal paths to the river such as beach access at Farewell Bend Park.
The stewardship project aligns with the mission of the Upper Deschutes Watershed Council and the PNCWA’s efforts to preserve and enhance water resources in the states of Idaho, Oregon and Washington. This is the fifth year of participating in a service project as part of the conference.
“This service project will be the first “hands-on” project associated with the PNCWA annual conference, and I am excited that it will benefit the river and community that I love,” said Shannon Ostendorff, PNCWA President and Utility Operations and Maintenance Manager, City of Bend.
“PNCWA members collaborate because of our similar passions and expertise related to waterways and working together for a service project is a great way to have a physical connection to our work and to give back to the community that hosts us,” said Brady Fuller, PNCWA Conference Chair and CH2M Principal Project Manager.
