See New Exhibits & Enjoy Live Wildlife Encounters

The High Desert Museum is getting ready for spring break week with wildlife encounters, extended hours, a unique indoor flight show featuring birds of prey and a special day for kids.

“We know that families are looking for activities to do during spring break so we’ve planned great programs to encourage them to explore the Museum together while the kids are out of school,“ said Dr. Christina Cid, the Museum’s director of programs.

From Saturday, March 25 through Saturday, April 1, the Museum will be open from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. In addition to the wildlife encounters and tours of the Spirit of the West exhibit, the Sky Hunters indoor flight program will return during spring break. It’s an indoor flight show where hawks and owls of the High Desert fly, literally, overhead. The program occurs twice a day at 11:00 am and 1:30 pm. Cost is $3 for members and $5 for non-members; tickets may be purchased at Admissions or online at www.highdesertmuseum.org/sky-hunters.

In conjunction with the exhibition The Buzzsaw Sharks of Long Ago, the Museum will have special activities for children during Kids Day on Wednesday, March 29. There will be games, craft tables, painting stations and more. Kids Day: Monsters of the Deep is free with Museum admission and is supported by the Oregon College Savings Plan and Wells Fargo.

In addition to two exhibitions WWII: The High Desert Home Front and Legendary Landscapes, Museum visitors can see Pacific lampreys on display in the Autzen Otter Exhibit and learn about efforts by the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Reservation to protect this unique fish species. Children especially will enjoy learning about the bizarre teeth of this animal.

Kids will also enjoy Spring Break Kids Camp which still has a few spaces open. Cost is $170 for members and $195 for non-members; extended care is available. Visit www.highdesertmuseum.org/kids-camp to register.

For additional information about rates and hours, visit the Museum’s website at www.highdesertmuseum.org or call 541-382-4754 ext. 241.
