Economic Development for Central Oregon (EDCO) and Redmond Economic Development, Inc. (REDI) announce two upcoming luncheons focused on two different topics applicable to the Central Oregon business community. Please see below for details on both the Redmond and Prineville/Crook County luncheons.
Redmond Luncheon
REDI holds its annual luncheon each year in May presenting topics that apply to Central Oregon’s economic development. This year’s event will focus on 3D and Robotics Technologies – where they started, how they impact our lives with applications you may not know exist, and what the future might hold. This event includes exhibits, guest speakers and a Q&A panel of industry experts from companies: HP, Tend.ai, The Center Orthopedic & Neurosurgical Care & Research, and Concept Designs.

Prineville Luncheon:
Additionally, Prineville has announced their annual luncheon: a Prineville/Crook County Economic Development tradition, providing the local business community an opportunity to hear about topics pertinent to Crook County. This year’s theme is “The Power of Prineville” and will address some of the unique aspects of Prineville’s ability to accommodate future growth and development. This luncheon will include a fascinating discussion about power availability, renewable energy development, and water resources.

Paul Benning: HP
Paul Benning, Chief Technologist for HP 3D Printing (HP’s newest business unit), has been with the company for over 20 years and holds 26 patents and trade secrets. A renowned inventor, he is recognized for his depth in materials, microfluidics and a broad set of additional technologies. Previously, he was Chief Technologist for HP’s Print, a $25B annual business. He has partnered with universities and businesses to incite new programs and research in the print industry and will be sharing how his expertise in microfluidics and inkjet technology has changed the way we view the world of printing from flat to 3-Dimensional.

Matthew Garrett: i3DMFG
Matthew Garrett is the Co-founder and COO of i3D MFG, a cutting-edge 3D metal (AM) manufacturing company. An initial user of AM in design and development work, his interest in the industry initiated when he was recruited as Engineering Manager by a prototype start-up company. His exposure to a wide variety of AM technologies and how they apply to accelerated design, complex mechanical structure and unique material properties gave him a solid perspective on the potential of the industry. With the vision of the future ahead in AM metals technology and its high value to manufacturing, Matthew joined his partners in launching i3D MFG, the Northwest’s premier metal 3D printing company. i3D MFG is setting standards for Materials, Application and Process development in the emerging metals AM industry. Today, i3D counts Lockheed Martin, GE Aviation, L3 and BAE as core customers in Aerospace and Defense.

Mark Silliman: Tend.ai
Mark Silliman is the CEO of Tend (www.tend.ai), a smart cloud robotics company with offices in Bend, OR and Boston, MA that enables manufacturers to remotely control, monitor and analyze the performance of their robots and production equipment from their mobile devices. He has been the CEO of three previous tech startups and has been involved in the robotic development community for more than five years. Mark will outline how artificial intelligence and robotics will shape the future of manufacturing.
Dr. Blake Nonweiler: The Center
Dr. Blake Nonweiler is an orthopedic surgeon in the Sports Medicine subdivision of The Center. He specializes in shoulder and knee arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery. He has performed over 3000 joint replacement surgeries over his 21 years of private practice. His special area of interest is knee conserving techniques such as osteochondral allografts and partial knee replacement. He is the lead physician collaborator with St Charles Hospital to bring makoplasty robotic assisted technology to Central Oregon. He was the first orthopedic surgeon in Central Oregon to perform a makoplasty partial knee replacement and will be performing the first makoplasty total knee replacement this month.
Mark Christiansen: Concept Design
Mark’s career in 3D Scanning spawned out of creating, fabricating, and welding projects with his father. His first manufacturing engineering projects were designing life flight helicopter systems which branched into both to aircraft and medical device design and manufacturing work. Locally in Oregon, Mark was a part of the Stratos jet aircraft company working from the early conceptual sketches through the manufacturing and testing of the aircraft components but specializing in developing the landing gear system. Early in his career he has also been an essential part of automotive design for companies such as Emory motorsports, Singer Porsche and Rothsport Porsches. Currently, Marks 3D scanning and design company, has projects involving dinosaur bone scanning to archive and market the sale of rare artifacts. Mark also works with OEM companies such as Porsche to capture discontinued or older product data in order to create new solid models using 3D scanning.
