Starbucks Corp. released a preliminary list of the 600-or-so “underperforming” stores it plans to close in the coming weeks, and none are in Oregon.
That means both Starbucks locations on Century Drive in the Safeway shopping center – one inside the grocery store, the other in its own building right across the parking lot – will continue to operate within a coffee bean’s throw of each other.
So far, stores affected by the closings are found in Alabama (four), Arkansas (two), California (eight), Iowa (one), Illinois (two), Indiana (two), Kentucky (one), Louisiana (two), Maryland (one), Minnesota (seven), Missouri (one), Nebraska (one), Nevada (five), New Jersey (one), New York (three), North Dakota (one), Ohio (two), Texas (five) and West Virginia (one).
“Much thought and consideration was given to each location, because we know the impact this has on our dedicated partners, customers and the communities where we operate,” the company said in a press release. “The determination of each store’s closure date is dependent on several operational and contractual factors and events. We will be as transparent as possible and each month, after closure dates have been communicated to all affected partners, we will post a list of the stores that are scheduled to close during that month.”
