The City Club of Central Oregon will explore whether further development of resorts is beneficial to the local economy, and how local experts weigh in on all sides of the issue on at 11:30am on Thursday, July 17 at the St. Charles Center for Health and Learning located at 2500 Neff Road in Bend.
The forum, “Resort Development in Central Oregon: Costs vs. Benefits,” will be presented in conjunction with Bank of the Cascades, and will address issues via panel discussion surrounding a surge in destination resort development throughout the region. The panel will include Development Consultant Linda Swearingen, Deschutes County Commissioner Dennis Luke, and Attorney and Co-Founder of Central Oregon Landwatch Paul Dewey.
There are currently seven active resorts in the area, with at least seven more in various stages of planning. While some tout the economic benefits the resorts may bring to the region, others voice concerns about the detrimental effects to quality of life, according to the City Club’s most recent e-mail newsletter.
