Senior Financial Scams: How to Protect Family & Friends

(Bend OR) – Senior financial scams are on the rise, but with proper prevention and education, the trend can be reversed. The public is invited to attend a free workshop, Senior Financial Scams: How to Protect Family and Friends, on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at Mid Oregon Credit Union, 1386 NE Cushing Drive, in Bend. Presenting the workshop will be Steve Esselstyn, Community Liaison, Bend Police Department. Call 541-382-1795 to reserve your seat. Refreshments will be served.

As the worth of seniors increases, so does the likelihood they’ll be targeted by con artists trying to strip them of their life savings. At the workshop you will find out how big the problem of financial exploitation is; who’s committing the crime; common examples of senior scams; how to recognize signs of abuse; what the long-term effects of exploitation are; how to prevent it; and where to go for help.
