A work of art created by Truckee, CA artist Troy Corliss will be installed at the East Bend Library in early 2012. The art, titled Riparian Botanicals, which is constructed of fused glass and forged steel, is inspired by Corliss’s desire to connect the outdoors with the indoor environment, a perfect goal for art in Bend.
Kevin Barclay, assistant director of the Deschutes Public Library District said, “The Library District is very excited that Troy Corliss was selected for the Art in Public Places commission at our new East Bend Library. This will be a wonderful addition to our children’s area.”
After reviewing 180 submissions of art from northwest artists, three finalists were selected. Three models were then placed on display at the Deschutes Public Library for two weeks, during which time the public was invited to vote in person or on-line for their favorite. Riparian Botanicals was selected as the winner by the Art in Public Places Committee after the two week public input process during July.
Art in Public Places is supported by Brooks Resources Corporation and the Bend Foundation, which have offered a matching gift of up to $500,000 to the community of Bend to fund the purchase and installation of public art in the Bend city limits before the end of 2012. The “Be Part of Art” campaign is currently underway, with the goal of reaching local donations up to $200,000 which is the balance necessary to raise for the match by the end of this year.
