A nationally-renowned business speaker, Kanth Gopalpur is president and founder of Monsoon Inc., a Portland-based online selling solutions company. Gopalpur’s leadership has gained the company recognition on Inc. Magazine’s 500 lists and a ranking of 11 in Portland’s Fastest Growing Companies. He’s also a veteran Oregon entrepreneur, having founded and led the online operations of Powells.com and helped build Django’s, raising $14 million in venture capital.
He is winner of the 2009 Tom Holce Working Capital Stage Company of the Year, eBay’s prestigious Most Innovative Star Developer award and a board member of Oregon Growth Account and Oregon Chapter or TiE.
EXPERT PANELISTS
Dino Vendetti joined Formative Ventures in July 2006 as a managing partner and is primarily focused on investing in early stage web and mobile companies. He is an experienced operating executive who spent the majority of his career in marketing, business development and engineering roles at start up’s including Qualcomm. His current investments include Eightfold Logic, Manzama, Capella and Staccato.
James C. Noonan is a private equity investor with broad investment, operations and transaction experience. Noonan is founder and president of Pivot Point Capital Corporation, Pivot Point Capital, LLC and related investment entities.
Founded in 1992, Pivot Point Capital is a private investment group focused on distressed or underperforming middle market operating companies. Pivot Point Capital has as part of its investment model the willingness and available skill set to manage as well as acquire distressed operations. In his role as a Pivot Point Principal, Noonan served for eight years as the president and chief executive officer of Rheodyne, L.P., a Rohnert Park, California-based manufacturer of high pressure injectors, valves and other fluidic devices for the scientific instrument industry. Noonan left Rheodyne following the sale of Rheodyne to IDEX Corporation (NYSE:IEX).
Art Hiemstra has been providing debt financing to emerging growth companies in the Pacific Northwest since 1991 and he recently joined the Bank of the Cascades in Portland as a senior vice president, where he leads the effort to help expand the bank’s presence in northwestern Oregon. The Bank of the Cascades is a Bend headquartered regional bank with operations in central, southern and northwestern Oregon and in southwest Idaho, primarily the Boise area. Before joining the bank Hiemstra was president of Vencore Capital, a based privately financed lender to emerging growth companies in key technology markets in the US. He joined Vencore in 2003 after 12 years with Silicon Valley Bank. At SVB Hiemstra led the Northwest Division and managed bank offices in Portland, Seattle, Boulder, Chicago and Minneapolis.
Hiemstra resides in Lake Oswego, where he recently relocated to after 12 years in the Seattle area while working for Vencore and Silicon Valley Bank. He received a BA in Communications from Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon and an MBA from Stanford University in Palo Alto, California.
Jeff Anspach is the CEO of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs’ Economic Development Corporation, (DBA “Ventures”) and joined the Ventures team in October, 2005. He was tasked with implementing a corporate restructuring strategy of Ventures’ operations. The strategy was to create a “Greenhouse” for some of the Tribes’ enterprises which currently include cultural resources, project engineering, road construction, information technology, telecommunications, biomass and use and occupancy.
Today, Ventures’ provides day to day operational support and management for the enterprises in its greenhouse, performs feasibility studies, develops strategic economic development initiatives, promotes Tribal entrepreneurs/small businesses and raises funds for implementation of business opportunities.
Prior to coming to Warm Springs Ventures, Anspach worked in corporate restructuring for an international turnaround management consulting firm. He specialized in developing sound financial strategies in order to affect a well thought out restructuring plan. In addition he developed usable and flexible financial projection models for use in raising capital, sale of business segments, identifying opportunities and developing cost containment strategies.
Anspach has over 25 years of business experience in a wide range of industries, from public corporations with sales in excess of $15 billion to small privately held companies with sales under $1.5 million. He helped raise over $750 million in less than nine years for a wide array of businesses across numerous industries in bankruptcy or on the verge of bankruptcy. He is an Enrolled Member of the Bois Forte Band of Minnesota Chippewa, is a certified public accountant (inactive), received his BS in accounting from Florida State University and served as a Sergeant in the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division.
