If you’re ever lucky enough to call Mountain High Coin & Collectibles (MHC), and get put on hold, you’ll instantly get the small, family owned business feel with a friendly voice describing their unique products and services. Even with the absence of a website, the Bend institution has had great success with its reputation, excellent customer service and strong community relationships.

Since 1990, Mountain High Coin is the oldest family owned and operated numismatic business and the only licensed and certified numismatic company in Central Oregon. Their niche market of buying and selling of rare and foreign coins, gold and silver bullion and unique, one of kind jewelry has put them on the map for locals and visitors alike coming to Bend looking for a part of history that is so often forgotten. Supplying to companies outside of the area and selling refurbished and estate jewelry — Mountain High Coin is one of Bend’s most treasured and trusted spots to visit and do business.

Last summer, MHC was the only local company to produce a licensed Total Eclipse Collector Coin for the state of Oregon. There were two versions for sale across the state and the most popular was the glow in the dark version almost selling out locally during the solar eclipse festivities. This fall and winter, the company’s focus will be new line of stunning, gold coin jewelry that will be fashionable for both an autumn look and into the holiday season. There will also be collectible issued government coins for stocking stuffers and hardcore collectors.

The inventory at MHC is ever changing and there is always unique jewelry pieces coming through the door. With new 2019 pieces available in January, every week is like a first time visit with new jewelry and collectibles to explore.

A Family Affair

With a passion for history, Michael Graham, the original owner, was in the coin business from his early 20’s. Collecting several items as a kid growing up in Los Angeles, Graham worked with precious metals and coins after college. Having visited Sisters several times, Graham moved the family to Central Oregon in 1984 and opened up the business in Bend. Settling on a busy area of Third Street, Mountain High Coin has survived even the toughest of times in our economy. Currently, the store is run by Graham’s daughter, Colleen McGrew, her husband, Dave and mother, Carolyn Graham.

The company is lucky enough to have had an exceptionally loyal staff who have been with the company from the beginning. “We pride ourselves on being knowledgeable and always keeping ourselves informed on the latest trends in the precious metals market,” says McGrew.

“We are thrilled that we have been able to persevere and go forward after the passing of Michael to continue our family’s legacy,” says McGrew, “The community support has always been a true blessing. We have had so many wonderful customers over the years. We have always enjoyed working in the community and doing personal and private businesses appraisals and estates for attorneys and financial institutions.”

Keeping it Local

Mountain High Coin is very involved in the community supporting Morning Star Pre-Schools, Habitat for Humanity, St. Francis Church, Boys and Girl Scouts and the schools. The company attends events such as The Ghost Tree Classic and Big Stock who contribute to local charities. They also support the High Desert Coin Club and Bend Coin Club of Central Oregon.
